Julie's Quest

Hello, and welcome to my blog. My blog is about the trials and tribulations of writing, where we celebrate successes and commiserate our near misses. We tell it like it is here and will do our very best to help you on the road to being published and pick you up after the rejections (they will come!) Whether you are a professional or amateur writer you will find something useful here.

I hope you enjoy reading my posts and will visit again soon.

One Of Those e-mails ......

Oooooh OUCH. Three rejections (short stories) in one email! It's like a paper cut - not very deep but hurts like hell! It's back to the drawing board for me then. If I wasn't doing so well on the article/feature writing side of things I would be wailing into my notebook by now. Has anyone got some soothing antiseptic ointment and a plaster? Oh and a lolly pop would be nice!

Come on, Julie, let Dwight. V. Swain take the strain, or rather let him take the misery out of rejection. Writing stories, short and long involves a great deal of learning, so why not short circuit some of this learning process with his wonderful help? I should be paid for this! :-) 'Techniques of the Selling Writer'....xx

I know how you feel. If it's any consolation I had SIX on Wednesday! Just get 'em out somewhere else - that's what I'm doing anyway :o)

Oh, Julie - hugs and sympathy! I am sending you a virtual sticking plaster and soothing ointment, plus an imaginary lollipop. Hope that does the trick. It does hurt, doesn't it, no matter how brave we try to be. But you're doing SO well. We're all getting more rejections these days - things are tough. Onwards & upwards! xxx

If you're talking about FF Oz I've got one too. And so has nearly everyone I know. I guess they're having a clear out.
Can you send your returns somewhere else?

You're on Twitter, Julie? How about posting to fridayflash, it would help you, I'm sure. Download Tweetdeck and read about it and join in...hugs...xx

Thanks Carole! I'd forgotten about Swain! I'm heading to Amazon as we speak. What's Fridayflash? I did set up a twitter account but have only been on it once! I'll have to get tweeting.

Six, Karen?! Oh my - I'd need more than a plaster - I'd need intensive care with an infusion of extra strength chocolate! I'm such a wuss. Ouch, ouch and treble OUCH.

I'm just waiting for the back log of rejections from them postal strike to filter through now!
Hugs and plaster and lollipop for you too.

Thanks, Olivia - definitely onwards and upwards! I'll be back to the resaerching og the mags soon and having another bash at them.
Julie xx

That's the mag, Lynne! Yes they must be having a clearout. Sorry you had a rejection too. One day all the bloggers here who write short stories will have their stories in That's Life FF at the same time - come on let's see if we can do it!

I will have a week of sorting out my rejected stories soon, revamping and sending elsewhere.

I got one from them today too. Don't feel so bad now I know I'm in such good company.

Julie P said...

Oh no, Simon! Not you as well? Join the club! Antiseptic ointment , plasters and chocolate all round them (and taking a look at Liam O'Connell's website!)

Hi, Elizabeth. Yes we are in good company - clearout day in Oz! As Simon say's its back to the drawing board! Here have a chocolate!

OK, I'll join in then, and tell you that I got two from them today as well!! I wasn't going to say so, as I just wanted to try & cheer Julie up - but as it seems like we're all in the same boat I guess it's quite funny! At least we all know it's nothing personal.

Welcome to the fold, Olivia!! We can all eat chocolate and bandage our wounds together! It is really funny when you think about it isn't it!! Anyone else out there holding out - come on fess up it's good for the writerly soul!

What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger - have a look at the Wrekin Writers' web site - www.wrekinwriters.co.uk and look at Happy Halloween from Wrekin Writers! It will make you laugh! Look out for Simon, Di, Bryan, Sue and me rocking out to Monster Mash!

It's all Simon Whaley's fault.
