Julie's Quest

Hello, and welcome to my blog. My blog is about the trials and tribulations of writing, where we celebrate successes and commiserate our near misses. We tell it like it is here and will do our very best to help you on the road to being published and pick you up after the rejections (they will come!) Whether you are a professional or amateur writer you will find something useful here.

I hope you enjoy reading my posts and will visit again soon.

It's In!

Both myself and Helen.M.Hunt have a short story in this week's issue of The Weekly News! Well done Helen. It's given me a boost to go and write some more.If anyone has a copy, see if you can spot the mistake in my story  - I saw it immediately. It sticks out like a sore thumb. It's nothing to do with me! Not guilty, Sir! But never mind  -  I hope most readers won't think I'm illiterate! Answers on a post card ...............

Congratulations to both of you! Obviously both were very excellent stories.

I bet very few people will spot your mistake, Julie. I would be willing to bet money. I submitted my first competition entry today. To me it was riddled with mistakes and didn't sound right, but my proof-readers loved it (my boss-lady and colleague).

Bet this will be the first of many many more pieces of good news for you :)

Thanks for letting me know mine is in there Julie. I wasn't aware. I will go and get a copy today now!

Thanks HC,

I think I probably noticed the mistake because I wrote it, so I hope it doesn't annoy the readers if they do notice! As you say, they might not.

Ta, Martin! It was such a great surprise. I knew it had been accepted but didn't know when it was going in. Definitely onwards and upwards!

Hi, Helen

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who didn't know! It's a great surprise though isn't it. Well done - yours is a fantastic story.

Congratulations, Julie.

There wasn't a story about a grumpy ticket collector on a commuter train was there?

Hi, Sue!

It's given me the boost I needed to write some more stories - I hope I can get a few more published this year. How's your writing going?

Hi, Kath,

Sorry, no, there wasn't a story about a grumpy ticket collector - but it sounds intersting.

Well done Julie! It's always lovely to find yourself sharing pages with blogging pals isn't it?

Never mind - congrats to you and Helen anyway. Not a lot of shops seem to sell TWN round here.

Hi Julie
Congratulations on your story!
I had a story in TWN a while ago and noticed there were lots more commas in there! They weren't mine but I was worried for a while about what people would think of my writing!

Julie P said...

Hi, Womag.

It certainly is! I was beginning to think it would never happen. I'm so, so pleased. I had a giggle because when I read the fiction in the women's mags I always analyse them to get a fel for the style - I was a bit stumped with analysing my own!It was a bit surreal.

Here's to we bloggers getting a lot more stories published. It just shows that it can be done - even if you think you can't do it and will never do it. Keep at is is my advice to those trying to get published. That and read the magazines.

Hi, Kath,

I have trouble getting the Weekly News here too sometimes. The local shop used to stock it but not any more. My sister's local shop, about 4 miles away has it, but only a few copies. I noticed Asda had it in before Xmas too. Hope your story is in soon.

Hi,Penandpaints

Congrats in getting your story in there too. It is a worry when you notice mistakes in your published work isn't it. Not a lot you can do about it once it's out there. I'm still chuffed with it, and I hope I can get a few more published soon.

Good luck with yours and everyone else subbing short stories to the magazines.
